Reasons for Prostate MRI

Your healthcare provider might recommend a prostate MRI if they need to know more about the overall health of your prostate. A prostate MRI is commonly ordered if:

  • A blood test shows that your PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels are higher than expected.
  • Other tests have not clearly explained your symptoms, such as pelvic pain or urinary issues.
  • There is a need to assess potential inflammation of the prostate, growths, or other suspicious areas.
  • A biopsy is planned, and the MRI can help target specific areas of concern for more accurate sampling.
  • Additional diagnostic insights are necessary to confirm, rule out the presence of, or monitor a diagnosed prostate cancer status.

After a prostate MRI scan, your provider will explain whether your prostate appears normal or if there are signs of issues like inflammation or abnormal growth. They will also review any unusual findings in nearby soft tissues and relate them to your symptoms or PSA levels.

I had to take my 11-year-old in for an MRI of his knee. It was one of the best experiences we’ve had at a medical office in a long time. Everyone was friendly, informative, and professional.

I had to get a brain MRI back in November. The check in process was fast and friendly. I didn’t have to wait long before being taken to the back to get prepped for my procedure. The staff made me feel at ease and the environment is very calming and tranquil. The MRI tech checked on me constantly during the procedure and kept me informed as to which part of the exam we are completing. I can’t remember her name but she was very nice and pleasant. If I ever have to get another diagnostic test, I will be returning here.
